Free Training Session: Youth Legal Training - Know your rights (Housing Rights)

  • Canada Water Library 21 Surrey Quays Road SE16 7AR (map)

Do you know your rights when it comes to housing and community care?

As part of our Young Londoner's Project we are working with Youth Legal to offer legal rights training to young people and their families. The aim is to empower them to better understand their situation, rights and when they can/should access specialist advice and support.

This training is primarily targeted at young people (old enough to benefit from the training themselves) and their families, but is also open to the parents of younger children.

We will be holding two sessions on Thursday 8th August, in the morning and in the afternoon.

Both sessions will be suitable for young people and their families with access to mainstream accommodation support.

This includes those with refugee status, leave to remain with recourse, asylum seeking young people and families in advance of gaining refugee status.

Anyone under 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult - if they are not accompanied by a responsible adult they will unfortunately have to be turned away as we do not have the capacity to supervise them.

16-18 year olds can attend independently but they must be registered in advance as we have a limited number of spaces for unaccompanied under 18s.

The Housing Rights session will cover topics including:

-Mainstream housing support

-Homeless applications

-Suitability of housing

Please come to Room 5 & 6 of the Canada Water Library at 10.30am.

Tea and Coffee will be available. Travel expenses can be refunded, please bring your receipt on the day.
